I had the privilege of meeting Liselle Powder at a “Healing Art Together” event during Women’s History Month. As both an exhibiting artist and spoken word performer, she captivated the audience with her moving presentation on self-love. Liselle is truly an artist extraordinaire – a serene soul whose powerful spirit touches everyone she meets. Through her masterful blend of visual art and spoken word, she has crafted a unique path to healing.

Liselle shares her transformative journey of finding peace and purpose through canvas and verse.

HOW ART HAS HELPED IN ME IN MY HEALING PROCESS:

When the word was ministered to me in 2019 to get up and paint, it was no turning back.
In the beginning I didn’t know nothing about art, but there was something that connected me.
Every stroke of the brush, the paint, the colors, brought peace to my mind. As a single parent,
painting of these art pieces was my sanctuary. I was transformed. I never did a course
in art, Everything came from my mind, it was my world that I lived in, the worries, stress, and
everything else was slowly drifting away. The more I painted and got better I was entwined with
the art world. My health got better as my high blood pressure was not high, my thinking was coming
back and I began to love myself all over again. It was freedom, it was my get away and I didn’t
look back. The bright colors used in my work inspired the rays of the sun to bring joy, peace and
reflection. I am free, and I am thankful for the connection with human hands, hands that worked and
created masterpieces that opened my soul to live again.

WHAT INSPIRED ME TO START CREATING

Creativity started in my mind. It was a passion that started from deep within. I watched videos after videos
and I knew what I had to do. I am a believer but that encounter I had in 2019, while lying on the couch, pushed
me to pursue art, just hearing a voice saying get up and paint was all I needed to run with the vision and passion.
I had nothing, no paints, no canvas, no stand. I shared my encounter with a friend of mine, she said “What do you need?”
I told her I need everything. My friend went on Amazon and brought me everything, from paints, canvas, stand and paintbrushes.
Then everything was shipped to my address. That was the beginning of my art journey.

HOW ART IMPACTED MY LIFE

Art has impacted my life in so many ways, because I was able to connect with other artists and have displays
as a vendor at different events, where some of my artwork was sold. My artwork was presented in three different Calls
East Islip Art Council, Westchester Community College and Lisa Di Amico Art Council between March and April of 2023.
My artwork was also accepted at the Hempstead National Museum of March 2024. I am looking forward to creating more
artwork pieces and entering more calls. My colors, sense of styles, techniques, and vision has increased in so many ways.
Now my friends are on the lookout for my work, they ask “When is the next art piece?” They want to know when is my
next show, so I have to keep them posted

MY MESSAGE OF HOPE

My message to others is never give up, pursue your dreams, plan and keep focus.
Always see the beauty in yourself inside out, never leave something for later that
can be finished now. There will be obstacles, trials and things to stop your progress,
but don’t stop, just be determined to run the race and finish, never give up.

Liselle’s Exhibit at SUNY Old Westbury University

On March 25th I showcased the art of a woman at SUNY Old Westbury University. It was well attended, and the showing consisted of 20 pieces.
The pieces represented women in the form of art. Most of the attendees were in awe of such lovely pieces. They felt a sense of belonging because
It represented who they are. They are excited to see what ‘s next in store and can’t wait with great anticipation
